Cortina d’Ampezzo is a famous town of the Ladinia area, situated at an altitude of 1224 on the sea level, in the middle of the
Ampezzo valley, between Cadore and Val Pusteria. The charming scenery of mountains, composed by The Tofane, Pomagagnòn, Cristallo, Falo

, the so called “Becco di mezzodì” and the “Cinque Torri” (the Five Tower), surrounds the city center all-around. Cortina has been recognized as an exclusive and well-known touristic winter destination from the Olympic Games of 1956 on, thanks to the infrastructures and sport buildings, built in occasion of those Games. 

Ski lift systems are about 40, with cable cars, chair lifts, ski tows which allow people to reach the numerous slopes of the ski areas: Ra Valles, between 2.850 and 2.200 metres, where snow is in good condition until late spring; Tofana, with amazing slopes, where since 1993 Women’s Ski World Cup races are organized; Socrepes, Lacedel, Pocol, at the foot of the Tofane mountains, with slope especially for beginners; Cortina Cube (Faloria), which consists of 30 km of slopes, accessible from the center  of Cortina thanks to a modern cable car; Cristallo, reachable from Rio Gere, which hosted several training session of national teams; Mietres, with slopes of a medium difficulty and Cinque Torri-Col Galina-Lagazuoi (slopes which develop on the opposite sides: north, slopes connect Averau Refuge with Bai de Dones refuge, while south, the slope from Forcella Nuvolau goes  to Fedare Refuge in Passo Giau area). All the valley of Ampezzo is a part of the Dolomiti Superski, the biggest connected ski area in the world.   

During the Summer, ski areas around Cortina d’Ampezzo become ideal areas for relaxing strolling immersed in grasslands, woods, areas for alpine excursions, mountain trails, mountain-bike or touristic itinerary in a breathtaking landscape.

Investments done in Cortina in order to host in 1956 the first Winter Olympic Games in Italy, are still today essentials for the qualitative offer about ski structures of the famous area, which keeps to fascinate a lot of VIPs, champions and mountain lovers.

Today the society life of Cortina is concentrated in the well-known Corso Italia, one of the most famous Italian shopping street, on which there are sone of the most luxurious shops, together with craft shops, antiquity galleries, souvenir shops, mountain equipment shops and the famous shopping center Cooperativa of Cortina.

Especially during the summer, many are musical, cultural and folkloristic events: during the week-ends, country parties are organized in the districts of the town, where dinner based on typical products is served; big bonfire are lighted on the eve of “Ferragosto” and of Assumption (15th of August); the end of touristic season is characterized by the “Fešta de ra Bàndes” (the Party of the Bands), which parades through Corso Italia; in September, finally, there is the “Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti”, an automobile competition between vintage cars.
